'Pussy joints'

Avian case from Group D.

Chicken farmer complained of lame birds and said they had pus in their joints. On Friday 22nd Aug approx ten 25-day old chicks were sent for post-mortem examination. The PM was done on Tuesday 26th.

Findings in all birds: soft bones, enlarged costo-chondral junctions (rachitic rosary)

No other significant lesions were seen, and no pus was seen in any joint of any bird.

Conclusion: the flock is suffering from rickets due to Vitamin D3 deficiency, which can lead to severe lameness in chickens. The claim of pus in the joints was likely an incorrect assumption on the part of the farmer. Vitamin D supplementation will be prescribed.

Hi everyone. The site is working fine. Once you check your email and accept your invitation, you can post freely and use your own email address to log in instead of the administrator username and password that I gave out earlier.
Finally I hope this works.
