Signalment: Two calves, 3 days old and 7 days old
History: Farm unsure if calves got colostrum, their navels were not dipped
Clin Signs: No suckle reflex, depressed, dull, recumbent
Calves died while undergoing treatment at SVM, brought to pathology lab.
Pathology: Limbs revealed the presence of a suppurative arthritis, erosion of cartilages within many limb joints. This was evidenced by the thinning of the cartilage on the articular surfaces, the presence of blood and yellowish material (possibly pus) in the joint cavity.
Cytology was done on some of the joint fluid aspirated, the slide revealed a massive number of neutrophils present.
The brains of the calves were removed also. One of them showed pus within the sulci of the brain especially on the ventral surface. This indicated a suppurative meningitis.
For now, there hasnt been any identification on the organism. As more is revealed, anyone can update this post.
